Health Benefits of Odyssey

Odyssey gives your home the ability to breathe, improving your quality of life. Studies have linked excessive moisture in homes to serious problems such as asthma and allergy related diseases.

Energy efficiency and air quality

The growing need to achieve energy efficiency in residential buildings has resulted in homes becoming increasingly tightly sealed. This can inadvertently result in a reduction of indoor air quality. Odyssey gives an energy efficient home the ability to breathe.

Studies link excessive moisture in homes with serious health problems, such as asthma and allergy related diseases. Odours produced from cooking and VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) emitted from building materials and furniture can also adversely affect the wellbeing of occupants.

Fresh air should come naturally

With air quality outside your home being almost always superior to inside your home, Odyssey’s innovative ability to improve the quality of air in the home resulted in the system being awarded the coveted Sensitive Choice® accreditation.

During the hotter summer months Odyssey removes hot stifling air from living areas and replaces the air to create a fresher, cooler environment. In the cooler months the system can draw warmer outside air into the colder areas of the home to provide a more comfortable living environment.

During winter, when homes are more tightly sealed against the cold, living and roof cavity areas are more prone to condensation which can lead to visible and hidden mould. Reducing condensation and replacing moist air with fresher air can help to reduce factors affecting asthma and allergens sufferers.

Bradford Ventilations' whisper-quiet Odyssey air exchange system constantly monitors temperature through external and internal sensors and when necessary, actively ventilates unwanted moisture that is otherwise trapped in the home.

Odyssey exhausts moist and humid air from your roof space all year round which can help counterbalance the adverse effects of condensation, including:

  • mould growth
  • loss of insulation effectiveness
  • timber decay
  • corrosion of metal components
  • phantom leaks caused by the build-up of moisture in the roof dripping onto ceilings
  • the staining of plasterboard.

Research: Is your home harming you? Asthma, allergies and indoor mould.

According to the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Melbourne, mould is a major issue for allergy sufferers.

In a recent study 35% of participants reported mould in their home within the last 12 months, and 13% of those skin tested had mould allergy. Mould allergy is present in up to 24% of the general population and up to 80% of asthmatics.

The study recommended home ventilation to lessen indoor humidity and dampness.
